Posters Showcase

2018

Berlin (DE)

Editorial

This showcase features collaborations at the level of event promotion and poster design. Through this collection of posters, I convey a maximalist aesthetic celebrating locality and cultural relevance in response to a design education in Lebanon and its colonial structural dismissal of Arab cultures in favor of Swiss/Eurocentric design.

Graphic design programmes in the Arab region emerged from Beirut, a city that embraces a cosmopolitan identity and European sensitivity on the surface but is still truly immersed in a complex system of overlapping – conflicting – cultures, religions and rituals. Beirut is mostly owned by a private company that altered the city’s cultural identity for the sake of modernity, a clear manifestation of its colonial history.

The featured works gravitate towards high vibrancy, experimental type treatments, illustration and mixed media techniques.

A series of posters exploring three-dimensional Arabic lettering and materiality. The approach combines analog techniques with photography, leading to unexpected visual productions. The posters were designed by the Mojo Ink team for the year 2015 under my creative direction. Design Team: Sayed Kammoun and Lori Dersarkissian.
KAFI combines Lino-printmaking with lettering, communicating a 'handmade' aesthetic.
A visual representation of routine vs. serendipity
Global Re:mix is an exploration of culture and shared identities at Manarat Al Saadiyat, Abu Dhabi. The brand highlights diversity through a series of illustrations unified by the use of one heart shape. Project Courtesy of Mojo Ink.
MAS MASH is a festival celebrating Arab animation at Manarat Al Saadiyat, Abu Dhabi. The brand reflects its dual-appeal: nostalgic at heart, modern in outlook. Project Courtesy of Mojo Ink.
Odyssey is a Beirut-based party and a maximalist brand combining dotting with illustration for a high visual impact.
A maximalist illustration inspired by French actor Louis de Funes, published in F/I/M/P Magazine, 2014.
